The situation in Israel… sponja, sponja and more sponja

Published by skazm at 2:31 am under Israel Edit This

OK.  This is going to be a pretty kvetchy post.  Kvetchy means whiny or complaining in Yiddish.  But there’s a point to it….

I live in a country where a cleaning lady is paid more than a college educated secretary.

I’m forced, through payment of my taxes, to support Israel’s “leader” Ehud Olmert, who in order to distract the newspapers from his illegal financial dealings, decided singlehandedly to chop off a strategic part of our land (the Golan Heights) and give it to a country whose nuclear armament facility we just blew up the other month.

I stand and watch in fury while people who do everything they can in order to destroy the Jewish identity of this country have full freedom of expression while anyone who wears the t-shirt bearing the star and fist symbol of Rabbi Meir Kahane’s various movements can face legal action against them.

And yeah, rent in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv is as much as in New York, almost, while minimum wage is something a little less $5 an hour.

There’s a lot more to kvetch about but I don’t have time.

So why would I, an American-born college educated woman with all of the opportunities said country affords her move to a place led by what so often resembles a petty third world dictatorship?

Well… there are a few reasons that make it all worth it to me.  I’ll let you know tomorrow.
