More about the Gilad Shalit Facebook Fiasco - They’ve Done It Before With Sderot
The Israeli government has a tendency of making like its hands are tied on certain issues while using public sentiment to its own aims.
When I was in New York City for Yom Ha’Atzmaut two years ago, I went to a celebration sponsored by the Israeli government for the American Jewish community and there was one specific incident regarding the programming that filled me with such revulsion because of its hypocrisy and general “shnorrer” mentality… they made a whole presentation about what is going on in Sderot and how all the Americans need to give funds to the Israeli government because the Israeli government needs that money in order to help Sderot. Like they are doing a frikkin’ THING about Sderot except letting the place turn into Swiss cheese. But asking money from the American Jews? That, they’ll use any excuse for if it sounds about right. They put on an emotional video Hollywood video presentation (of course, with many faces of besieged little children) geared up to pull some tears and pull some wallets out of the pockets (or checks, or credit cards, they take those too of course).
Meanwhile, where is the military action? Where is ANY action regarding Sderot, anyway? So much for this cease-fire everyone is harping on. As far back as um, yesterday, rockets (unless I’m mistaken and it was the day before yesterday, I don’t even know anymore) supposedly hit Sderot causing several shock cases and damage. Any country with a semblance of self-respect would have gone in there and made shwarma out of those Hamas and PA operatives but no. Israel just sits there and begs the Jewish Americans for money so they can do something. It’s really evil.
And when faced with this whole change your profile picture for Gilad Shalit business, I can’t help but say that its just symbolic of the same disease! Listen, don’t get me wrong. Facebook is important and is a great grassroots kind of tool to get things done. But, first of all, I don’t think the government of Russia or the States is going to put a consulate page on Facebook in order to get people to see things its way, and if Israel felt they had to have done it, they could have at least done it surreptitiously cause it makes them look like a frikkin’ banana boat country. Second, like I said before, they should be concentrating on a campaign of why we have to go enact a ful scale aerial assault on Aza instead. Then again, they shouldn’t be wasting taxpayers’ money explaining themselves to other countries that really don’t want Israel to exist anyway.
